At ML Performance, we like nothing more than true data to back up a brand's claim when it comes to performance on your BMW, this time our customer Desislav puts the Masata N54 N55 HD Performance Intercooler to the test. Read on to find out the result and how it fared!
Desislav's N54 FBO (Full Bolt On) struggled with the high IAT (Intake Air Temperature) on his N54 after his tuner increased the boost on his custom map 6 setup to 17-19psi. The car was reaching 192°F after a 2nd to 4th gear pull, which kills timing advance thus reduce power output, this is a 83°F increase in temperature after a single pull.
With the struggle of this high IAT and reduced power, he decided to upgrade his stock intercooler to the Masata Intercooler.
Once he upgraded to the Masata N54 N55 Stepped HD Performance Intercooler, this greatly reduced the IAT after the same 2-4th gear pull, from the below test data, the Masata Intercooler was 65°F cooler than stock after the same 2nd - 4th gear pull. Now he can do pulls after pulls without worrying about timing advance being killed and reducing power, even on hot summer days like we have experienced lately. This consistent performance is all we dream for when modifying our pride and joy!
Test results - Stock Intercooler
Start Temp. 109°F
End. Temp. 192°F
Temp. Increase 83°F
Test results - Masata Stepped Performance HD Intercooler
Start Temp. 109°F
End. Temp. 127°F
Temp. Increase 18°F (65°F Less than Stock)
Special thanks to our customer Desislav and his tuner, who shared these amazing test results with us, to once again show that the Masata Intercooler is doing its job.
