Background

The genuine original equipment (OE) part for the Porsche 964 Turbo intercooler is no longer in production and is unavailable for purchase. Finding used parts in good condition has become a challenge, with the few available often being priced high. The Porsche 964 Turbo, a true rarity and classic sports car, has seen many of its kind rebuilt and tuned over the years. Today's owners aiming to return their vehicles to a more original appearance encounter challenges, particularly because many aftermarket intercoolers, with their boxy sheet metal tanks, undermine the vehicle's classic aesthetic under the hood, diminishing its elegance.

Our Solution

In response to these challenges, do88 has developed an intercooler with a primary goal to replicate the original look as closely as possible. Our design ensures that all fastening points, air guide, hose connections, and sensor ports are exactly where they should be, mirroring the original unit. Our intercooler have the same type of core structure as the original, featuring a 63mm (2 1/2") thick Tube & Fin core. Our development used an intercooler from the highly exotic Porsche 964 Leichtbau as the blueprint for all shapes and dimensions. Not only did we aim to match the stock appearance, but our intercooler also beats the original in cooling performance and pressure drop, ensuring that functionality does not take a back seat to aesthetics.

Installation

Our intercooler is designed for a direct fit in all 3.3L and 3.6L Porsche 964 Turbos, making installation straightforward. Given the hand-built nature of these cars, adjustments of intercooler brackets might be necessary to achieve the perfect fit. Luckily the OE intercooler brackets gives room for adjustment which was probably needed already from production line as the shape of the OE intercoolers that we seen during this development process have been varying a bit. However, these adjustments are minimal, ensuring that owners can upgrade their cooling system without compromising the car's classic appearance or the integrity of the installation process.
