The HEL 82°C oil cooler thermostat installs in-line to AN braided hoses that run to and from an oil cooler. This solution is perfect for vehicles that rely on a non-thermostatic engine take-off plate rather than a traditional thermostatic oil filter sandwich plate.
Around 10% of the oil circulates through the oil cooler at any given time, this ensures a continuous flow that prevents air pockets and safeguards against thermal shock to the system. The surplus oil is channeled back to the engine or transmission through the internal bypass system, promoting faster warm-up and eliminating the risk of overcooling.
When the oil reaches 82°C (179.6°F), the thermostat fully opens, allowing 100% of the oil to flow through the oil cooler. If the oil temperature drops below 82°C, the thermostat closes and the surplus oil is once again returned through the internal bypass system to the engine or transmission to prevent overcooling.
Nestled in the base of the unit, we've incorporated a handy 1/8" NPT thread that's perfect for installing an oil temperature or oil pressure sensor. Should you choose not to install a sensor, a blanking plug is provided to securely seal off the thread.
The inlet and outlet ports have M22 x 1.5 threads, allowing easy compatibility with a range of adapters to suit your hoses.
Each unit is meticulously machined out of solid billet aluminium, assembled, and thoroughly inspected at the HEL UK headquarters to guarantee five-star quality and performance. The hand-painted HEL logo adds the perfect finishing touch.
