Spool Performance FX-170 High-pressure fuel pump upgrade

What is the FX-170?

The FX-170 is an upgraded high-pressure fuel pump. The pump features a bigger bore size than stock that translates into roughly 50% more flow when compared to stock. The pump is completely E85 compatible and fully plug and play with no cutting or splicing of any kind required. The added flow will let you run much higher ethanol concentrations and also allow fueling for bigger turbos. The FX-170 also is capable of running at 25% more operating pressure than stock pumps helping injectors flow more volume of fuel for the same opening time.

Why do you need it

The stock HPFP on the B58 motors is severely limited in capacity when trying to tune and raise the output of the motor. The FX-170 adds 50% more flow to the equation, and also lets the injectors flow more, raising the fueling limits on the platform and helping you run bigger turbos and/or higher ethanol concentration blends.

Ethanol Analyzer

According to the latest ASTM guidelines, Ethanol blends rated E85 can have anywhere from 51% to 85% ethanol content. This means the E85 at your pump can in fact at times, be only E55 containing 55% ethanol. This uncertainty is of serious concern to enthusiasts who are running performance E85 tunes for their vehicles. Running a lower ethanol content fuel with a tune rated for a higher content can cause damage to your motor. Knowing the absolute ethanol content in the E85 fuel from your pumps helps you avoid those damages.

Ethanol Sensor App

Unlike competitors, our Ethanol Analyzer Apps are truly free of cost and features an Ethanol Mix calculator to make sure you get the perfect blend every time. With an ethanol analyzer kit, the App can automatically populate the in-tank fuel's E-content required for the calculations. The app can be downloaded and used even if you do not have our Analyzer kit and will let you estimate your mixes.

Spool 10-micron filter unit

Our 10-micron filter unit boasts the best filtration available in the market without any noticeable pressure drop in the low side fuel system. The filter unit helps keep the high-pressure pump and injectors safe by protecting them against debris and is highly recommended.

Are tune changes required?

The upgraded pumps do require calibration changes. It is important to apply these changes prior to starting the car with pumps installed to avoid any possible damage and void of warranty. 

Spool Performance can provide calibration details to your existing tuner and/or help you connect with established tuners who are experienced with these pumps. Custom tuning is required to get maximum output out of the upgraded pump setup for your specific vehicle setup and ambient conditions. Spool Performance is a hardware manufacturer and does not provide custom tunes, but can assist with questions your tuner may have.

Low Pressure Fuel Pump Upgrade:

Proper low pressure fueling is extremely important for proper functioning and durability of the high pressure pumps and injectors in a DI system. Inadequate low pressure fueling can cause damage to the pump piston and bore as they are lubricated by controlled leakage of fuel. Resulting damage from low pressure starvation is detectable and would be cause for voided warranties. Please make sure you plan out your fuel system build with proper low pressure upgrades when necessary.
